Activities in Santorini

The island is suitable for walking trips in Santorini. There are routes along the edge of the Caldera, in the Prophet Elias location and in Ancient Thera, along the beach and in the area of the prehistoric archaeological site of Akrotiri.

Fira - Imerovigli - Ia

This route starts from Fira and ends in Ia. It takes about 3 hours and 45 minutes easy walking. The route is not marked, but is one of the most fascinating on the island, as it follows the edge of the caldera.

Sailing trips in Santorini to various spots on the island, as well as to nearby islands, are organized by the Santorini Maritime Sports Association, based in the village of Vlychada. You can also rent a speedboat from the Association of Boat Owners.

You can enjoy diving in Santorini in the waters of the beautiful beaches from May through October. There are three dive clubs on the island:

  1. Mediterranean Dive Club is located in Perissa and has a branch in Akrotiri. The Club organizes dives in the volcano, as well as wall diving, cave diving, reef diving, nitrox diving, scuba and snorkelling.
  2. Volcano Diving Club is located in Kamari. It organizes wreck diving, wall diving, cave diving, reef diving, nitrox diving, scuba and snorkelling.
  3. Atlantis Diving Club is located in the picturesque Armenis bay in Ia.

You can also dive in other areas of the island, where diving is permitted, as for example in Caldera and in an impressive cave in the southern part of the island. You can obtain diving equipment at the diving clubs or the specialised shops on the island, provided that you have a diving licence.

You can enjoy horse riding in Santorini: on the Exo Gonia beaches, to the south of Vothonas.
